The High School Musical fever does not stop here as the highly successful Disney franchise has another award to add up to its string of honors. The soundtrack album of the Disney Channel Original Movie sequel was recognized by the 35th Annual American Music Awards as Best Soundtrack Album this year. The event was held last Sunday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles , California , where cast members Vanessa Anne Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, among others, were there to receive the award.

It is the first time in the history of the American Music Awards that the winners of the 35th Annual American Music Awards were garnered from online voting. The fans of High School Musical took this opportunity to vote for their favorite soundtrack, which beat the albums of Hairspray and Dreamgirls.

High School Musical 2′s soundtrack, which was released in August, debuted at the number 1 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, Amazon.com, and iTunes Store, where it initially sold 615,000 and shipped double platinum with 2 million copies during its first week of release. A month later, the tally increased significantly, and thus the album became the fourth-biggest first week sales of 2007. Within three months, the CD was able to sell over 3.5 million copies worldwide.

It isn’t a surprise that the album has garnered huge sales in such a short period of time. The made-for-TV Disney film, which chronicles the young lovers Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) during their summer break at the resort owned by the family of antagonist and spoiled brat Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), has also garnered an impressive 17.2 million viewers in the United States during its premiere, thus making it the highest rated basic cable broadcast in the history of the United States. Not only has the franchise spawned various product lines such as video games and other tween products, but it has also launched the solo careers of two of its main cast, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, who have released their solo albums soon after the first High School Musical movie was aired.

As enthusiast of the animation Naruto, we’ve all heard about the word Naruto, but do you know what Naruto truly means? The word Naruto is actually from a type of Japanese fish cake. The specific fish cake that Naruto is with is often seen with pink surroundings and designs that is seen as a simple spiral form.

Believe it or not, it is often eaten alongside with soups and noodles. Yes, this will include the ramen that Naruto from the animation that he enjoys. If you examine the fishcake carefully, you would also notice that the head protector that Naruto wears looks very much the same as the food Naruto itself. So Kanoha is really revolving around the food Naruto and it’s kinda interesting to see that these little facts actually ties in together to the centric part of the storyline somewhat.

Besides Naruto being a traditional Japanese dish as fish cakes, Naruto is also an actual city in Japan located in Tokushima a bit leaning towards the southern part of Japan. The city itself is quite small with a population of only 63,784 currently shown on their city’s official website. The city of Naruto was founded in the March of 1947 so the city itself is still relatively new. One of the most interesting facts about the city is that it contains the first two of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage buddhist temples. Now what makes this fact stands out is the looks of the people from the temple and what they wear.

Yes, those traditional Buddhist clothings that pilgrims wear are closely resembled to the ones that the Hokage’s in Naruto animation wear starting from how they dress all the way to their hats. So the next time t you watch Naruto episodes again, you’ll know exactly where it’s origin as well as where little things ties up together.

Growing up from the US, most kids have grown up with cartoons such as Bugs Bunny and Popeye which portrays the good overcoming evil as well as satires that pokes fun of political figures in a none threatening way. For kids, majority of the time these cartoons have provided a positive impact rather then negativity or problems.

With the recent months in the rising popularity of Japanese animation especially the series of Naruto Episode, many parents are now worried that it may pose as a negative influence for children. Not only does it portray a lot of problems shown within society, it also contains a lot of adult humor as well. Is this something that we should allow our children to be influenced with? Will this type of influence give children bad ideas about the society or their engagements with one another?

Before we further examine this topic, we have to first understand the background of the anime Naruto. The story revolves around Uzumaki Naruto, a kid that has an inner demon of a nine-tailed fox who has once destroyed many villages until a powerful kage or a leader of a village who sealed his inner demon away through a powerful jitsu or a mystical technique of a ninja. The demon is then locked away and the story of Naruto begins with the life and adventure that Naruto has to face. All the while knowing that the demon inside of Naruto may come out someday both from his friends and foes.

From the outer appearance and storyline, Naruto doesn’t seem harmful for children nor is the general storyline provides any hint of negativity in anyway. However, with different Naruto Episode there has subtle hints of sexuality. For one, Naruto suddenly changes into a woman wearing a bikini from a man in ways through this Episode Naruto seduced his teacher. In another Naruto Episode, various characters posses characteristic of a woman although by nature they are being presented as man.

For parents, these are major signs of red flags that tells parents that they are not suitable for children due to inappropriate content. I however on the other hand dare to say that it’s actually okay for children to be exposed for these type of influences. Children nowadays are exposed with sex, violence, and crime whether it is from television or in the public area although some may minimize such influences. Whether you believe it or not, children pick things up rather quickly from adults. Instead of prohibiting negative influences, I believe parents should really educate kids at an early age the right and wrong and lead by example which is something that is lacking at large in causing a lot of division amongst the family and the society as a whole.

Even if we have successfully screened out the popular anime Naruto from our children in an effort to protect our children, is this eliminating the heart of the problem? I dare to say no and that we really need to examine ourselves in our communications with our kids in an educational way in light to talk about such events and things. Animations such as Naruto will only increase in this age of globalization and we need to learn how to cope with it rather then excusing ourselves from facing the true reality of this world. With proper education and support, I believe we can still enjoy anime the same way that we had enjoyed various cartoons in a positive manner with our children.

The rise of Kpop music is considered part of the rise of the Korean Wave (“Hallyu”). Korean music was challenged in 1992 when a Korean popular music group called Seo Taiji and Boys mixed traditional Korean music with American rap, rock and techno influences.

Their success, followed by other experimental groups (line panic) is what contributed to the present day’s popularity of Kpop. Korean popular music scene met afterwards the influence of dance-oriented acts such as the famous hip-hop duo Deux, followed by teen idol groups such as Baby V.O.X., Fin.K.L., g.o.d, H.O.T., Shinhwa, Sechs Kies, and S.E.S who were highly popular in the mid 90s.

Today, pop groups are still fashionable, despite the current emergence of R&B and hip-hop in Korean music. MC MONG, 1TYM, Rain, Big Bang and Epik High are some of the bands that have made hip-hop popular, together with other underground artists such as Drunken Tiger, Tasha and Dynamic Duo. Apart from BoA, other artists as well have contributed to the popularity of Korean music outside their country’s borders. Rain and Se7en are some of the artists who sold their albums in other countries from eastern Asia. However, the greatest challenge for Korean artists (in fact, for all Asian artists) is to enter the profitable English-language music market.

As English has become an international language, the only way for a singer to achieve international recognition is to sing in English, so that everyone should be able to understand the lyrics. Korean singers are aware of that and a few of them (Rain, Se7en, Skull, a reggae artist and Min form JYP Entertainment) are planning to make a debut on the USA music market soon. Once they have managed to conquer the American listeners, the door to worldwide fame will stay open for them.

R&B, hip-hop and dance are the popular music styles today in Kpop music, which one can compare, from this point of view, with English pop music. Boy bands, girl groups, pop singers and R&B stars, currently dominate the Korean music scene. Ballads are also very popular. Some people argue that more diversity is necessary in Kpop music, but perhaps the rock industry will also develop in the future and everyone will be satisfied. The future looks bright for Korean singers and it is probably just a matter of time until they will conquer the US charts and the rest of the world. Kpop is gaining more and more fans every day and Korean artists are gaining popularity in US and Europe.
