Since 1934, every Wednesday evening aspiring artists take the stage at New York City’s Apollo Theater. They come with hopes that the magic of the historical theater and the approval of the audience will launch their careers in the music world.

These young artists perform on a stage that has been home to an impressive legacy of world-class talent including Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Sarah Vaughn. In fact, it’s this musical legacy that makes the Apollo Theater an excellent attraction for student group travelers who have an interest in music and African American history.

One of the most famous clubs for popular music in the United States, the Apollo is also known for its association with African-American performers. When the Apollo first opened, it was one of New York City’s leading burlesque clubs and was attended by mostly white-only audiences.

In 1934, however, the Apollo Theater changed ownership and opened its doors to African-American patrons with a “colored review.” The new owner’s motivation for featuring African American talent and entertainment was attributed to the fact that the theater’s surrounding neighborhood, Harlem, was made up mostly of African American residents. Black entertainers were also cheaper to hire and offered quality shows for reasonable rates. One of the theater’s first African American Amateur Nights featured a young dancer Ella Fitzgerald, who quickly went on to became a singing sensation.

The Apollo Theater also featured old-time vaudeville favorites such as Tim Moore, Dewey “Pigmeat” Markham, and Moms Mabley, and in later years launched the careers of contemporary entertainers such as Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Jackson 5, and Mariah Carey.

In the 1950s, Buddy Holly and the Crickets, with their rhythm and blues background, were initially mistaken for an African American group and booked to play at the Apollo. At first the crowd booed the white performers, but their talent eventually won over the audience and they were accepted.

Although the club fell into decline in the 1970s, it made a comeback in the 1980s through a spirited campaign launched to revive public interest. Eventually, the Apollo Theater was recognized as a national, state, and city landmark.

Today, the Apollo is open six events a week, and features performing arts troupes, community programs, concerts, and special events. It is New York’s third most popular tourist attraction, and draws an estimated 1.3 million visitors a year.

Student groups can schedule a tour of the facility that illuminates the history of Harlem through the lens of the Apollo, its legendary accomplishments, its role in the community, and American history as it relates to 20th- and 21st-century music. The one-hour guided tour also reveals little-known facts about the theater and the legendary people who have performed there, while also examining the significant contributions of African-Americans and Latinos to the birth of global popular culture. Tours are available for groups of 20 or more by appointment on most week days. Student groups touring the Apollo on Wednesday can return in the evening for Amateur Night at the Apollo.

One of the favorite topics of debate for Naruto fans is the matter of who the stronger one is; Naruto or Sasuke. Now, as you may know, Naruto and Sasuke are rivals. All Naruto wants is for people to acknowledge him. Sasuke, on the other hand, belongs to the Uchiha clan, the strongest and most prestigious clan in Konoha.

Naruto would do anything to have what Sasuke so haphazardly throws away; the respect of the villagers and the love of Haruno Sakura. Sasuke is everything that Naruto is not; he is handsome, well respected, and intelligent to the point of being a genius, powerful without even lifting a finger. Sasuke is the very image of perfection. But unlike Naruto, Sasuke is cold, aloof, and uncaring. He is arrogant and too obsessed with the past and the tattered aristocracy of his dead clan. He is single minded, so driven by the thought of revenge that he takes for granted everything he has left. And that is what Naruto cannot accept. Naruto cannot understand why Sasuke cannot see what he has right in front of him. Naruto cannot understand why Sasuke is never contented. As the series progresses, Naruto becomes stronger and he starts catching up. And this is what Sasuke cannot accept. He cannot understand why someone like Naruto who was dull and did not have a kekkei genkai could be so strong. He cannot understand why Itachi would be more interested in Naruto rather than him. Of course, Sasuke did not know about the Kyuubi back then.

And so they have a rivalry and it’s the age old debate between which would win: power and attitude or power and intelligence.

Naruto

Of course, power and attitude refers to Naruto. Naruto is pure determination. He might not be the brightest pea in the pod, but he sure is the most persevering. What he lacks in intelligence, he more than makes up for in raw power. Of course, Naruto owes his brawn to the Kyuubi who lends him a huge amount of chakra and stamina and this is a huge advantage in fights.

Sasuke

Sasuke, on the other hand is power and intelligence. He wields the Sharingan; the strongest doujutsu in Konoha. He is fast and powerful. And though he might not have as much stamina as Naruto does, he makes up for it with his ingenious strategies and techniques. Like Naruto, Sasuke is determined. But his determination is directed at all the wrong things.

Who is stronger?

So, in the end, who is stronger? Naruto who has his raw strength or Sasuke who has ingenious strategies? Perhaps the answer could be found if they fought. And fight they did. In the valley of the end, Naruto and Sasuke had a definitive fight. It was a grueling fight. They both had equal power ups, Naruto with his Kyuubi stage 2 and Sasuke with his Curse Seal 2. It was an extremely close fight but in the end, it was Sasuke who won. However, let’s not forget that Naruto only had a few tails out then from the Kyuubi and he’s still got up to 9 tails to go in terms of just Kyuubi’s side of power. Besides powers from Kyuubi, Naruto has been constantly been training very viciously in the Naruto Shippuden series and now in Kakashi’s own words “surpass” Akatsuki members by himself. Although Sasuke is more powerful then Naruto, in Shippuden if they were to have a fight today it’s tough to say that Sasuke would even have a chance to win the fight while on the other hand we would expect Naruto to win, bue only by a small margin.

Dana Stone and Rick Washbrook meet in 1972 thats about 37 years ago at school in Aurora Ontario.   In fact Dana Stone was a student of Washbrooks later in his teens. They went on to being good friends through the years.

 

In there early 20′s they lived together with a band called the Stoves in London.  This is when Washbrook attended record production and engineering at Fanshaw Collage.  Dana Stone was sound man and publicist for the band.

                     Thiruppugazh ( "Glory to the Lord" or "Divine glory") is a 15th century anthology of Tamil religious songs dedicated to Murugan, the son of Shiva, written by the poet-saint Arunagirinathar. The anthology is considered one of the central works of mediaeval Tamil literature, both for its poetical and musical qualities, and for its religious, moral and philosophical content.

                      The worship of Murugan has strong roots in Tamil Nadu. Murugan is descriped as being full of love and compassion. Arunagirinathar says in the Thiruppugazh the songs will, by the grace of Murugan, convey the pearls of devotion and wisdom. The songs contain philosophical musings on God, expressed in simple terms, placing particular emphasis on the role of God’s grace or mercy in helping the individual deal with the troubles and ills that afflict humanity.                         Arunagirinathar was one of the first poet to set all his compositions to reverberating music in the style of "Santham" which means setting the verses within a certain length to conform with rhythm (thala). Arunagirinathar was the pioneer in the art of setting his poems to the sweet sounds of music.Arunagirinathar produces hundreds of compound rhythmic words such as, tatta, taatta, tantha, thaantha, thaiya, thanna, thaana, thanana, etc . At the beginning of each poem in the Thiruppugazh, Arunagirinathar gives the rhythm MUSICAL WAY OF WORSHIP

Be it a wish to own a house, an aim to scale new heights, a will to face challenges or an aspiration to seek the Lotus Feet of the Lord, there is a song in Thiruppugazh that seeks to fulfill all such wishes.As Muruga himself prompted Arunagirinathar to sing, it is believed that the words of Thiruppugazh were in fact the words of Muruga and every word therefore acquired a power of its own.

                          There are prayers meant to fulfil the different aspirations of people. The song: "Viral Maran Aindhu Malar Vali Sindha" is ideal for removing the marriage obstacle, "Agaramum Aagi" to attain a great lifestyle and "Irumalum Roga" for health. The song that will shower wealth and prosperity is "Charana Kamalalayathai Arai Nimisha." The "Ainkaranai Otha Manam" number gives a happy and harmonious life, and "Antarpathi Kudiyera" helps one to own a house."Sivama Dhudane" to get rid of poverty While the hymn "Ninaitha Theththanayil" helps to achieve any wish.The song "Thimira Udhadhi" to become beautiful and get rid of bodily flaws.
